What is cupping?

Cupping is a type of Chinese medicine that feels like a deep massage. Glass cups are usually used, and a cotton ball is soaked in alcohol and lit on fire, then placed inside the cup and removed. The cup is then placed on the skin quickly. This allows suction to be created within the cup. The suction that is drawn from the cup allows for stuck energy and toxins to be drawn out of the body.

There is dry and wet cupping techniques, however Cascade Health Clinic only does dry cupping. This is what was just described. The treatment typically last about 20-30 minutes, and can leave marks. The marks that it leaves are due to the suction, and will fade away after a few days.
At Cascade Health Clinic we perform stationary cupping, where the cups are left in place as well as Massage Cupping where the cups are moved across the skin to help decrease pain and break up tissue.
Cupping works to remove toxins towards the surface of the skin and out of the body.
